Lego Sculpture Freddie Mercury
This is a life sized Lego bust of Freddie Mercury. It measures 40cm x 25cm and was constructed without modifying Lego pieces in any way or the use of glue.
I originally constructed this model as an entry for the arts and crafts competition at the 2005 International Queen Fan Club Convention. I won the contest against some strong opposition and also received a great reaction from the fans and organizers of the convention.
In December 2007, I entered the model in a competition that the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show was running, with the prize being a souped up car. The people at Virgin wanted the listeners to offer something to swap for the car, that couldn't be bought in the shops. I thought I'd try my luck and offer them the Lego Freddie Mercury. Although I didn't end up winning (I think I came very close), the Virgin Radio Breakfast team kindly featured the model on their website over Christmas.
A recent development is that the Freddie Mercury model has won the Daily Mirror Reader's Lego Contest. Id like to thank everyone at the Daily Mirror for awarding me first prize (I assume the chqeue is in the post!).
