William Shatner Virgin Radio Commission.
When I was contacted by Absolute Radio (Formally Virgin Radio) to construct a life sized Lego bust of William Shatner, as prizes for their "Get Shatner" competition, I knew that I would have to come up with something special.
I had come to Absolute Radio's attention in December 2007 when the station offered to swap a sports car for a unique item that couldn't be bought in the shops. I offered them the Freddie Sculpture and although I didn't secure the deal (I did come very close) my offer was memorable enough for Virgin to contact me regarding the "Get Shatner" competition.
The "Get Shatner" competition was very well publicised. The idea being that the first Virgin Radio listener to get William Shatner to call the Breakfast Show would win the Lego bust of the great man. Mr Shatner is proving to be very allusive though and I don't believe that he's called Absolute Radio yet.
He did though discuss the competition and my sculpture in an online interview. Unfortunately Mr Shatner confused my sculpture with another Lego model of himself that was constructed for an exhibition of art entitled "The Shatner Show." So, Mr Shatner. If you ever get to read this, I'd like to assure you that I am not that other artist and invite you to take a second or two to view my version of you!
