Freddie.
This is a life sized Lego bust of "Freddie". It measures 40cm x 25cm and was constructed without modifying Lego pieces in any way or the use of glue.
I originally constructed this model as an entry for the arts and crafts competition at the 2005 International Queen Fan Club Convention. I won the contest against some strong opposition and also received a great reaction from the fans and organizers of the convention.
In December 2007, I entered the sculpture into a competition that the Absolute Radio (Formally Virgin Radio) Breakfast Show was running, with the prize being a souped up car. The people at Absolute wanted the listeners to offer something to swap for the car, that couldn't be bought in the shops. I thought I'd try my luck and offer them the Lego Freddie. Although I didn't end up winning (I think I came very close), the Absolute Radio Breakfast team kindly featured the model on their website over Christmas.
"Freddie" went on to win the Daily Mirror Reader's Lego Contest against some stiff opposition and was featured prominently on the Daily Mirror Website. "Freddie" was purchased by the Haywood Gallery for the View Basket: Bought Online exhibition in August 2008 and currently resides in the Gallery archives.
